Global sustainable packaging leader Berry Global Group, Inc.has been named to USA TODAY’s 2024 list of America’s Climate Leaders for the second year in a row. The prestigious list is a “data-driven recognition of companies that cut their carbon footprint in recent years” developed by market research firm Statista. Based on reductions in operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, this recognition underscores Berry’s commitment to significantly cutting its carbon footprint to combat climate change.

“As a global plastic packaging leader, we have a responsibility to minimize the impact of our products, value chain, and operations around the globe,” said Rob Flores, Vice President of Sustainability for Berry Global. “Our inclusion in USA TODAY’s list of America’s Climate Leaders 2024 is a testament to our steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and ongoing efforts to pave the way for a circular, net-zero economy for plastics.”

America’s 2024 climate leaders were selected by calculating compound annual reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity from 2020-2022 for U.S. companies with publicly available emissions data and revenue of over $50 million. Other factors that contributed to ranking included tons of CO2 equivalents emitted, total emissions reduction, and participation in the CDP and Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Berry’s ranking represents significant sustainability advancements from 2019, including setting SBTi-validated climate goals in line with limiting warming to 1.5°C, receiving an A- rating from CDP, and reaching its short-term Scope 1 and 2 science-based GHG emissions reduction target two years ahead of schedule.
