Proven technology optimizes durability, grip, and comfort
Improves recyclability, supports a circular economy
Global packaging leader Berry Global today announced the first domestically produced, recyclable polypropylene (PP) drink cups1 to support retailers’ own brands. These innovative cups will be showcased at the Private Label Manufacturers Association’s Private Label Trade Show in Chicago next week.
Developed using Berry’s proprietary Bantam™ technology, the innovative cups incorporate rigidity bands to create a durable solution that can offer an average weight reduction of 10-15%2 compared to polystyrene (PS) cups.
“As a leader in innovation, Berry has a long history of creating more sustainable products while enhancing the consumer experience,” said Erica Colgan, Product Line Director at Berry Global. “Our redesigned party cup, informed by consumer research, optimizes durability, grip, and comfort while improving recyclability3 and supporting a circular economy.”

Why This is Important
A brand intelligence report conducted by Daymon reveals that over 44% of U.S. shoppers purchase more private brand products today than a year ago, and 34% plan to increase their purchases of private brands in the coming year.
As the demand for private brands grows, so does the need for innovative, sustainable packaging solutions. While many food service establishments have transitioned to recyclable cups, many plastic retail cups in the U.S. are still made from Polystyrene, one of the 11 “problematic or unnecessary materials” identified by the U.S. Plastic Pact.
As forward-thinking legislation continues to force market shifts away from PS, private brands need an alternative solution that can deliver on priority business needs and consumer expectations while ensuring sustainability improvements are economically viable.
