Stand 3-248 will focus on reduce, reuse, recycle

At Fachpack 2024, Berry Global will showcase a range of rigid and flexible plastic packaging that can help companies achieve their sustainability objectives and commitments.

Meeting the needs of a variety of key sectors in both food and non-food markets, the circular solutions on display include examples made with recycled plastic content and renewable materials, and designs that improve recyclability, are lightweight, and offer reuse or refill options. Importantly, such benefits are achieved without compromising on a pack’s aesthetics or functionality, so it continues to satisfy individual brand and product requirements.

“We remain committed to working with our customers in the drive towards a circular, net zero economy,” said Matthias Hammersen, Vice President Sales, Berry CPI Food Beverage, and Specialities. “Fachpack provides the ideal opportunity to highlight our many initiatives and progress in key areas including reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

Berry’s innovative approach to improved recyclability will be demonstrated by several different examples. A new Flow Restrictor for sauce caps provides an alternative to conventional valves for controlled product dispensing. Because both the lightweight cap and Flow Restrictor are manufactured in polypropylene (PP), the cap can be more easily recycled.

Similarly, Berry will highlight its range of industrial containers now available with a robust plastic instead of metal handle. As well as allowing both container and handle to be recycled together, the new plastic version offers a comparable reliable performance.

Another example on show, the Proxima tethered closure incorporates a special tamper-evident band that, once broken, ensures the closure remains attached to the bottle. This significantly reduces the likelihood of littering through carelessly discarded closures and supports increased recyclability.

Among its range of lightweighted containers and closures for the food sector, Berry will demonstrate its Sava Flip Top. The lightweight design maintains a robust construction and is ideal for sauces and dressings, with a variety of orifice sizes and styles to suit different product characteristics.

Designed and developed for the needs of the Edible Oil market, Berry will also display the range of Sunny and Pical Pouring Closures. Available in 26/21 and 29/21 neck finishes, the one-piece closure designs offer weight-saving potential combined with clean pouring performance.

Berry’s range of reusable cups for hot and cold beverages for the foodservice market represent another important development. They are dishwasher safe with a robust construction that combines a premium quality feel and high-impact branding opportunities. Despite this durability, the cups are lightweight and can be recycled when they finally reach their end of life, as they are made from high-quality PP.

Alongside several containers made from post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), Berry will also showcase its proprietary, closed-loop CleanStream® technology - the UK’s first domestically recovered, mechanically recycled PP for contact-sensitive applications.

Two innovations for the retail sector will be highlighted by Berry’s flexible films business. The company’s innovative Omni® Xtra+ polyethylene cling film for fresh food applications provides a high-performance alternative to traditional hard-to-recycle PVC cling films. It offers elasticity, uniform stretching behaviour, and high levels of impact resistance comparable to PVC while meeting current European recycling guidelines.

Berry’s range of Entour® mono-material laminated films meanwhile are ideal for bags, pouches, stand-up pouches, and flow wraps for markets such as foods, wipes, and pet foods. The films deliver high levels of product protection, consumer convenience and point-of-sale impact. Combined with the ability to be recycled when used in combination with other PE structures, they offer an alternative to traditional multi-material PET/PE and OPET/PE laminated films which cannot be easily recycled.

We are excited to showcase our innovative range of circular flexible packaging solutions at Fachpack 2024,” said Gerry Mcgarry, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Berry’s European Flexibles business. “Fachpack presents a crucial platform to demonstrate how our advanced packaging technologies are helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”
