Berry Global Group, Inc. (NYSE: BERY) is proud to announce its achievement of two certifications to aid in the monitoring and ultimately the reduction of its carbon footprint in China. Berry’s Suzhou, China, facility has received the ISO 14064-1:2018 certificate after third party service agency, Hangzhou WIT Assessment CO., Ltd verified company data’s integrity and accuracy. ISO 14064-1:2018 ensures specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. This certification measures the exact tonnage of Berry’s scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for its nonwoven products manufactured in Suzhou in 2022.
The Suzhou site also received the SCD5141F Carbon Footprint Assessment Certificate, according to internationally recognized standards ISO 14067:2018 and PAS 2050:2011. Alignment with ISO 14067:2018 enables the specification of principles, requirements, and guidelines for the quantification and reporting of the carbon footprint of a product, in a manner consistent with International Standards on lifecycle assessment. The PAS 2050 aims to provide a consistent internationally applicable method for quantifying product carbon footprints. SCD5141F is one category nonwoven material with post finishing treatment for healthcare application. In 2022, the Suzhou site also received a Carbon Footprint Assessment Certificate for its SEP0552B product, which is for hygiene application.
These certifications will provide customers with a greater level of transparency around the carbon footprint of certain category products purchased from the Suzhou site, including the data during nonwoven raw material production, raw material transportation, nonwoven production, and delivery. The Suzhou site manufactures spunbond and spunmelt nonwovens for use in baby diapers, surgical gowns and drapes, face masks, and filtration media. Through its efforts to implement renewable energy and the specific measurements of these certifications, Berry Suzhou continues to make significant strides toward lowering its operational impacts on the environment while helping customers achieve their goals for reduced scope three emissions.
Earlier this year, Berry’s Suzhou manufacturing facility was awarded as Jiangsu Provincial level “Green Plant,” which recognized Berry’s outstanding performance on low carbon emission and advancing energy reduction management.
